Thin Film Solar Cells: The latest solar cell panels and shingles

In some parts of the world and especially in Europe due to government subsidies, many new houses are built new with solar cell roofs. Until recently, this was not the case in the U.S. and UK because the cost of solar roofing remained prohibitive.

However, with the recent invention of what is called "thin film" solar technology, solar roofing tiles, panels and shingles are not only easier to make, but easier to work with in construction. These very thin and very flexible solar cells can be made to look like conventional roofing shingles and panels.

The best part of thin film solar is it is much more aesthetically pleasing. This technology can be used on visible pitched roofs where shingles or small tiles are the norm. They look exactly like conventional roofing, but thin film solar roofing shingles can make your electric meter spin backwards.
