Thin Film Solar News: Largest Plant Opened in Germany

The largest thin-film solar power plant in the world has opened in Germany. It is called the “Rote Jahne” and was built and brought online by contractor Juwi Solar.

This solar power plant will have a total output capacity of six megawatts, using 90,000 solar modules to capture sunlight. The array looks like a gigantic shiny football field when looked at from the sky.

Thin-film solar modules, such as the ones used in Germany, are cheaper than crystalline modules, easier to work with, and produce more energy per unit.

This solar plant is built on a former military airfield, and has a surface area of approximately 16.5 acres.

These are the kinds of projects that demonstrate how solar, and in this case thin film solar, might be used on a larger scale to produce enough energy for entire populations, as opposed to the one house at a time solar we were previously accustomed to.
